About ASO

History
    Last year, African students at the University of New Orleans, recognized the need for an Organization geared toward the education and integration of Africa and Africans into the American society. This realization led by Zara Danforth, produced the African Student Organization.

This Organization was created with the intentions of integrating incoming African students into the American way of life and also uniting African students with the hope of creating a strong, vibrant African community that not only supports each other but also gives back to the UNO community by educating it about Africa and African related issues.

To help us realize our agenda, ASO set up these goals as the backbone and driving force of our organization;

To foster a greater understanding and unity among students from all African countries attending UNO

To foster a sense of camaraderie among members and seek avenues for recreation

To promote, encourage, and support academic, athletic, cultural, social activities, and to unite and integrate the Africans here at UNO.

To stimulate interaction among African students, other students of UNO, and the UNO community.

To welcome and assist incoming African students to UNO in cooperation with the Office of International Students and Scholars.

This Organization is comprised of Africans, Americans and people from other countries around the world.
